So creatively named, the “Chocolate Balls” are a true crowd favorite. These are so yummy and the perfect dessert to bring to any party. My Grammy generously makes these for all the birthdays and other special occasions, and they are always the biggest hit! No one can even tell they’re dairy free & allergy friendly. ;)
While hanging out with Grammy last week I got a taste of the chocolate ball making in action, and I figured it would make an excellent blog post since it’s such an iconic staple recipe in my family!
With only 3 ingredients they couldn’t be simpler to make, so let’s get into it.
Ingredients:
*Disclaimer: We typically make these in bulk for larger gatherings, but this recipe can of course be made in a smaller batch! It could easily be reduced by only using one sleeve of Oreo cookies and one third of the cream cheese container.
One package of Oreos (We love using mint Oreos or original, but this is totally customizable - feel free to experiment with your favorite flavors! I feel like Golden Oreos with a white chocolate coating could be super fun too.)
One container of your favorite vegan cream cheese (We use the Tofutti cream cheese! This can be found at most grocery stores such as Wegmans.)
Your favorite dairy free chocolate (We use the Enjoy Life Semi-Sweet Mini Chips - free from 14 allergens!)
Steps:
1. Begin by crushing up your Oreos - there’s several ways to tackle this!
Crushing Methods
- If you have a food processor, go ahead and utilize that to pulverize your cookies. - If you have a blender that you believe is strong enough for the job this could work as well, maybe blend small batches of Oreos at a time to avoid any trouble. - Or go old school by putting your cookies in a large zip lock bag and crushing them on a counter or other hard surface. You could even use a rolling pin or something of the sort to help you out.
2. Once your Oreos are crushed into a mixture, fold in your cream cheese and mix thoroughly.
3. After your Oreos and cream cheese have been combined, you have your batter! You’re going to want to place this in the fridge (or freezer for a shorter period of time) in order to allow it to cool. This will help with the next step!
4. Once your batter has chilled, use your hands to form small balls out of the mixture and place them onto baking sheets lined with parchment paper.

5. After shaping all of the mixture, you’ll want to place the balls you’ve made into the fridge or freezer once more - this will make the following step easier as well!
6. Next melt your chocolate chips of choice. We typically do a minute in the microwave, stir, then 30 seconds in the microwave to top it off.
7. Once your chocolate is melted and you’ve let your Oreo mixture balls chill, you’re ready to start dipping!
8. Grammy has perfected the “two spoon method” :) While it is slightly time consuming, it makes the best “ball” shape! To execute this method, use one spoon to hold the Oreo mixture ball while you use the other spoon to coat it in chocolate. You can then switch between spoons to ensure the ball is evenly coated!
9. Once the Oreo mixture balls are dipped in chocolate, place them back onto the parchment paper. After finishing all of them, stick the tray(s) back into the fridge to set!
10. Once the chocolate coating has completely hardened, you can remove them from the fridge and enjoy!!
11. To maintain ultimate fresh-ness, place your chocolate balls in an airtight container and store them in the fridge!
And that’s it!! Super easy as promised!
If you make these, I hope you love them as much as my family does!!!
